Python Django Setup

To start with django first you need python installed on your system. In my system I have python3.8 which I will use for explanation. You can install any python3 version. Its suggested to install latest version so that you will have more secure and stable program.

Install Django

To install django run below function in your terminal/cmd (I asume you have already installed pip, if you havent then pleae follow our blog to install pip first.) In my system its pip3.8, on your system it may be pip3 or pip.

pip3 install django

This will install django framework on your system.

Creating Project

Once django is installed on your system you can start your project.

First, we create a project, then we create an application in that project. Understand this that you want a webapp for school management. Then we create a project named school management, under that project we create multiple applications to manage fees, homework, attandence, transportation, etc.

To create aproject just run command

django-admin startproject <project name>
django-admin startproject accounting

This will create a project for you. Move that directory and you will find multiple files their and a folder with the name of your project. These are default files in Django.

Start Project

To start your project run below command:

python manage.py runserver

This will start your project. You can verify that by browsing http://localhost:8010 or http://127.0.0.1:8010

By default django start project on port 8010 if you want to chagne port you can use

python manage.py runserver 127.0.0.1:<port number>

python manage.py runserver 127.0.0.1:80

Project Idea:

Please, refer to our blog for ideas of projects you can do in Django for exercise. For this series, I will create an accounting project with name accounting.
